The natural gas interconnector between North Macedonia and Greece will have a total length of 123 kilometers, encompassing both the Macedonian and Greek sections. The pipeline will extend from Nea Mesimvria to Negotino, passing through Gevgelija, and will interconnect the national natural gas transmission systems of the two countries. The initial transmission capacity of the interconnector will amount to 1.5 billion cubic meters per year, with the potential for expansion to 3 billion cubic meters per year. Furthermore, technical studies have been conducted to ensure that the pipeline complies with the necessary specifications for the transportation of hydrogen.

For the implementation of the project for connecting Macedonia with Kosovo, NOMAGAS JSC Skopje submitted a project application under the 21st Call for Technical Assistance for Infrastructure Projects within the IPA instrument – the Western Balkans Investment Framework, in February 2019, and an updated version in May 2019, for the preparation of a Feasibility Study and an Environmental Impact Assessment Study.

The technical assistance was approved. The studies were completed by the end of 2022.

The construction started in December 2016 and is expected to be completed in 2023.

Status of realization:

Implementation along the main line – 75.5 km = 91%

Implementation along the Tetovo branch – 10 km out of the contracted 10 km = 100% (as of March 2021).

Route description:

The route of section “Skopje-Tetovo-Gostivar” starts at the existing main gas pipeline Deve Bair-Skopje, from the location where a separation of the gas pipeline branch was performed for the supply of the industry of the gas pipeline branch Skopje-South. After the connection to the existing gas pipeline, the route begins to bypass Skopje from its southern side, passing through Kisela Voda-Sopiste, gradually moves from the lowland to a mountainous terrain west of the top of Vodno. Then the route begins to descend towards the Treska river, passing through Glumovo, under the village of Semeniste, the village of Chajlane, in front of the village of Bukovik, through the Reka and Panicarska rivers, continuing southwest towards the village of Merovo, through the locality Balvan and west under the village of Gorna Leshnica to the locality Dobrev Jaz where the connection to Tetovo is located. From Tetovo, the route descends towards Miletino cutting the Sveta river, continues west between Miletino and Blace, east of the village of Trenovo, where the Valve station 18 is placed, then the route crosses the Vardar river and the Polog valley. In the continuation, the route makes a semi-circle to the east bypassing the Balin Dol and Malo Turcane villages and ends at Kolchak.

The route of the section Skopje – Tetovo – Gostivar covers the regions of Skopje, Polog and Gostivar.

The construction started in February 2017 and is expected to be completed in 2023.

Route description:

The route of section “Negotino (Kavadarci) – Bitola” starts from Kavadarci – Sopot, it intersects the Crna river, continues through the place Drenovo, then it cuts the Cerechevica river, moves along the slopes of the mountain range and the valley of the Svinjarnica river. The line of the gas pipeline crosses the riverbed of the Bela and Dujras rivers, passes through the old road to Prilep and enters the valley of the Karatmanica river, then it cuts the Zapolska river along which the route rises in height through forested areas. South of the city of Prilep, the route turns south and passes through rural properties, cuts the Volkovska and Stavichka rivers and then moves along the non-forested areas. In the southern direction, the gas pipeline cuts the channels system, intersects the Podmolska and Lopatica rivers and continues through the flatland in places cut by ravines, cutting the Mojanska and Benja rivers. Further, the line cuts a 400kV transmission line, an asphalt highway and the riverbeds of the Crna and Dragor rivers. Moving parallel along the river, the route moves along a flatland, cutting small channels and ends north of the city of Bitola.

The construction started in June 2016 and completed in 2019.

Route description:

The route of “Valve station 5 (Stip) – Negotino” starts from Valve Station 5 near the city of Stip (where the section “Klechovce-Valve station 5” ends), passes the Serta mountain, passes through the far eastern part of the Krivolak military range and goes towards the Vardar river. After the crossing on the Vardar river, the main gas pipeline section until its end at the connection for Kavadarci is moving west. In this part, the route goes south from Negotino, north of TPP Negotino and north of the city of Kavadarci.

Опис на трасата:

Трасата на Делница Клечовце-Блок станица 5 започнува во реонот на Клечовце, како приклучок на постоечкиот гасовод Крива Паланка – Скопје и продолжува кон југ до реонот на Неготино. Оваа делница од магистралниот гасоводен систем на Република Македонија од својот почеток кај село Клечовце, Куманово се движи на југ кон градот Свети Николе, кој што во широк лак го заобиколува од неговата источна страна, и во чија што близина е предвидено приклучното место за кракот кон Велес и Свети Николе. Од оваа точка правецот на протегање на делницата завзема југоисточен правец према градот Штип. Во продолжение се до преминот преку река Вардар генералниот правец на протегање на оваа гасоводна делница е кон југ. На овој дел делницата ја тангира ТИРЗ Штип од нејзина северозападна страна, минува западно од градот Штип, ја поминува река Брегалница, река Лакавица и завршува кај Блок станица 5, во должина од 61 км.
