Contract signed for the design and construction of the gas interconnector between North Macedonia and Serbia

Nedim Rama, Chief Executive Officer of NOMAGAS JSC Skopje, and Toni Karanfilovski, Director of Rapid Bild, have signed the contract for the design and construction of the gas interconnector between North Macedonia and Serbia.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and the Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources Sanja Bozhinovska.

Following the completed procurement procedure, the bid of Rapid Bild was selected as the most advantageous, with a contract value of €29.4 million. The project will be delivered on a turnkey basis, in accordance with the FIDIC contract model, and will cover all key stages of the project — urban planning, design, construction and obtaining the final use permit.

“By signing this contract, we are creating the conditions for the implementation of an important infrastructure project. Following the completed procurement procedure, Rapid Bild was selected as the most advantageous bidder, with a contract value of €29.4 million. This is a turnkey contract based on the FIDIC model, covering urban planning, design, construction and obtaining the final use permit,” said Nedim Rama, Chief Executive Officer of NOMAGAS JSC.

The gas interconnector section in North Macedonian will be 22.4 km long, with a diameter of 500 mm. The route will begin at the Klechovce Valve Station and extend to the North Macedonia–Serbia border, near the village of Sopot.

The project also includes the construction of five associated facilities: a main interconnector metering station, a pressure reduction station, a valve station, and two pig launcher/receiver stations.

The gas pipeline will have a designed technical capacity of up to 160,000 m3 of natural gas per hour. The interconnector is designed to enable bidirectional gas flows, creating additional opportunities for the interconnection and operation of the natural gas transmission system.

According to the planned project schedule, the full implementation of the project is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2028.
